About the Event

Why are the weekends happening?

Women's Climbing events are often aimed at people new to climbing. These weekends will be providing women specific events that are aimed at those who already have a fairly high level of experience, and are looking to improve their climbing. I'm hoping that it will help to fill a little gap that I feel is there for women at the moment in climbing.

It would be amazing to see more women confident to be climbing harder grades, or leading groups, or maybe even thinking about a career in the climbing industry!

You could use it as a way to meet other female climbers, as well as work on your own climbing.

Who are the weekends for?

They are aimed at those already competent leading trad climbs at grade Severe and above.

What sort of thing could you work on?

  • Head game - do you suffer from a loss of head game when climbing?

  • Pushing your grade leading - maybe you are looking to move to the next grades leading but feel a barrier is holding you back?

  • Trusting your gear and belays - Do you weight your gear? Do you trust it will hold you if you do?

  • Stance and rope management on multipitch climbing

  • Having to confidence to be the strongest climber in a group.

  • Rescues and crag evacuation

  • Any other aspect of climbing!

How will the instruction work?

You will have 2 days of high quality, professional and up to date instruction at a 2:1 ratio.

I (Alice) will be leading each weekend, with other instructors working alongside me. We will meet each morning at 9am at Caffi Caban in Brynrefail before heading to where we will be climbing. The days will run from 9am to 5pm.

Each group will be at a 1:2 ratio, and you will be climbing with one other participant, and an instructor. The other instructors will be a mixture of men and women. We will likely all go to the same crag, but this will depend on the participants aims. You will be paired with another participant whose aims align with yours, and you will remain with the same instructor for both days.

What kit do you need?

You can come along with the clothes and shoes to keep yourself comfortable in the weather that is forecast. You need all your food and drink for the day with you. For climbing kit, it is often best to use your own gear as this is what you will be climbing on after the course. We will use my ropes for the course. You can also use one of my racks if you would like to.

What about accommodation?

This is not included in the course, but I can help with places to stay. In the past, the whole group have stayed at a Mountaineering hut together, so I can organise this is people would like me too, which is £10/night/person. On booking, I will ask if this is something that you would like to do.
